Make screenshots people download

Six habits that separate store pictures people act on from ones they scroll past.

Good store pictures are not about design skill. They are about saying one clear thing, fast, to someone who is barely paying attention. These six habits do most of the work.

Your first two pictures do the work

On a phone, people see two or three pictures. Most never scroll. So your first two do nearly all the work.

Put your best one first. Show the one thing your app is for. Not a sign-in screen. Not a menu.

One idea in each picture

People look at each picture for about a second. One idea fits in a second. Two do not.

If your headline needs the word "and", you may have two pictures.

Do this

"See where your money goes"

Not this

"Track spending and set budgets and get reports"

Say what people get

Feature names mean something to you. They mean nothing to a stranger.

Write what the person gets instead.

Do this

"Know what you spent, in seconds"

Not this

"Transaction categorisation"

Keep it to about six words. Short text also stays clear when the picture is small.

Show the app, not decoration

People want to know what your app is like to use. Real screens show them. Big logos and slogans do not.

Fill your app with real-looking content first. Empty lists make an app look unfinished.

Keep one look across the set

Use the same background, the same text style, and the same place for your words.

A set that matches looks like a product. A set that does not looks rushed. The app keeps one look for you. Give a slide its own look only when you mean to.

Translate the words before anything else

Selling in another country? Translate your words first. A new design can wait.

Someone who cannot read your headline learns nothing about your app. You can change the words and keep the same pictures.
