How do I…
Short steps for each job: pick sizes, span a phone across pictures, use frames, make a feature graphic.
Short answers to the jobs people come here for. Each one is a few steps, in order.
From screenshots to store-ready pictures
Every project is the same five steps.
- Add your screenshots. Drag them in. Each becomes a slide.
- Pick your sizes. The + button at the top lists each store's sizes.
- Choose a layout and a look. Layout puts the phone in place; Style sets the colours.
- Write your words. Click the headline on the picture and type.
- Export. The app checks your work, then saves a ZIP to upload.
Each step has a page of its own below, if you want more than the short version.
Add or remove a store size
- Click + beside the sizes at the top.
- Tick a size to make it. Untick one to stop making it.
- Click the new pill to see your work at that size.
One phone size per store is enough to publish. Add a tablet size only if you tell the store your app runs on tablets.
Your slides are not changed. The same slides are drawn again at each size you pick.
Add, copy and delete slides
The dashed tile at the end of the list adds a slide. It asks for the screenshot that becomes it, because a slide is made from a screen of your app.
The ⋯ button on a slide copies or deletes it. A copy keeps the words, the look and the screenshots, so it is the quickest way to make a slide that is nearly the same.
Deleting a slide leaves its screenshots in your library.
Phone frames
A frame draws a phone around your screenshot. It makes a picture read as an app rather than a flat image. The frame matches the device the screenshot came from, so an Android screen gets an Android body.
Pick No frame for a plain screen. The solid frames look right when the phone is turned in space, because they have real sides and buttons.
Run one phone across two pictures
Stores show your pictures side by side. A phone that runs across two of them makes the row read as one scene.
- Click the slide you want to spread out.
- In the Layout tab, choose Span.
- Pick 2 or 3 pictures under Panels.
- Drag the phone left or right until the split falls where you want it.
- Each picture has its own words, so write them in the Text tab.
The slide now exports as two or three pictures. Upload them next to each other, in order, or the scene will not line up.
Make your slides continue into each other
Connect slides, at the bottom of the Layout tab, runs one background across every slide. A phone that crosses a slide's edge shows up on the next one.
It looks best with a gradient background and phones set large. Keep your words clear of the phone that reaches in from the slide before, and the app will warn you if they overlap.
Making a feature graphic
Click + beside the sizes and tick a picture under Marketing graphics. Google Play asks every app for a feature graphic; the App Store ones are optional.
The app makes one straight away, using your first slide's screens and words, and takes you to it. Edit it like any other picture. The layouts offered are the wide ones, with the rest below them.
Two of those layouts show your app's icon and name. Add them in the Brand box, which appears in the Layout tab when you pick such a layout.
Translating your words
Click the globe button, then Manage languages, and add a language. Your first language stays the one you write in.
Now pick the new language from the globe button and work as usual. Each box shows your original words in grey until you type over them, so you always know what you are translating.
To use a translator, click Export CSV in the same window. It writes a spreadsheet with one row per piece of text and one column per language. Send it, then load their file back with Import CSV. Nothing is typed twice.
Screenshots can be translated too. With a language chosen, add a screenshot and it is used for that language only. Where you add none, your original screenshot is used.
Make your screenshots now — it runs in your browser, and your images stay on your computer.
